Čistoća d.o.o. Split and the City of Split have easily completed their information campaign Odvoji, lako je mural in Split’s Vukovarska Street. The citizens of Split can now see what the semi-underground tanks look like in the graffiti edition, and in addition to them, the mural also depicts the famous characters from the video Separate.

The creation of the mural was made possible by the CTA team by joining Čistoća Split with the creative team of the Graffiti na gradele festival, and the famous Split graffiti artist Petar Rančić turned the idea into a work of art. The opening of the graffiti was another opportunity for citizens to learn more about the new waste management system first-hand at the info stand, where questions were answered by the employees of Čistoća with the director Ivica Karoglan, as well as the mayor Ivica Puljak. Information stands became a regular activity of the campaign, which provided the citizens of Split with opportunities for information from the employees of Čistoća themselves. Stands were set up in various neighbourhoods, but also at events such as the celebration of Marjan Day and the Zero Waste Festival that we organized in June.

– The mural is another original reminder of how to properly separate waste and I believe that the whole campaign will help us to make separation in the right way a common and simple routine. The city, in cooperation with Čistoća, will continue to work on the infrastructure for proper waste disposal, and it is up to all of us to adopt good new habits, separate waste and make our city of Split even tidier and cleaner – said Ivica Puljak, Mayor of Split.
Why semi-underground tanks?
Such containers are the backbone of the new waste management system, while their multiple advantage is manifested in their five times larger volume compared to conventional containers. Thanks to the installation underground, unpleasant odours and the presence of animals are reduced. There is significantly less possibility of picking through waste, there is much less noise when emptying the container, and lifting the lid is safe and easy to use for all age groups and people with disabilities.
At each location, where they are open, it is possible to dispose of four types of waste. The container with the blue lid is intended for paper disposal, and the one with the brown lid for biowaste. Mixed municipal waste is disposed of in a container with a black lid, while plastics, metal and tetra pack belong in a semi-underground container with a yellow lid.
The campaign has been carried out for several months, and now the lyrics “Separate” can be heard all the way from Split kindergartens to clubs and radio stations.
Waste separation, in addition to being important for environmental protection and achieving the prescribed share of separated waste, also carries the burden of the limited capacity of the Karepovac landfill in Split. There are only two years left until it is filled, so it is extremely important for the people of Split to learn and get into the habit of properly separating waste and thus slowing down the filling of landfills.
– This mural is another way for mutual informing, which will speed up the process of learning about waste separation and gradually reduce the amount of waste we dispose of in Karepovac – said Ivica Karoglan, director of Čistoća d.o.o. Split.
